PRAXAIR DE VENEZUELA, S.A., empresa transnacional comercializadora de gases industriales, decidió trasladar sus oficinas de Caracas a su complejo industrial. Praxair nos propone utilizar un galpón desocupado y la zona pavimentada situada frente a él como zona de aparcamiento. La temperatura media en la zona es de 27 a 31ºC. Nuestro reto fue entonces diseñar una edificación de apariencia industrial, que proporcionara un ambiente de trabajo agradable, permitiera abstraerse de la aridez del sector y protegiera de las altas temperaturas. 

Para ello, invertimos la pendiente de la cubierta existente con el fin de mejorar la relación espacial interna, dar vista a las oficinas ubicadas en la mezzanina y evitar exponer la superficie de la cubierta al sol de la tarde. Por este mismo motivo, frente a la fachada principal acristalada, se dispuso una estructura metálica con romanillas y pérgolas para proteger las zonas de trabajo de la fuerte insolación. Para reducir la emisión de calor y crear una vista agradable, se colocaron bloques huecos de concreto sembrados con grama japonesa sobre el pavimento exterior existente.

PRAXAIR DE VENEZUELA, S.A., a transnational industrial gas trading company, decided to move its offices from Caracas to its industrial complex. Praxair proposed us to use an unoccupied shed and the paved area in front of it as a parking area. The average temperature in the area is 27 to 31ºC. Our challenge was then to design a building with an industrial appearance, which would provide a pleasant work environment, allow us to get away from the aridity of the sector and protect it from high temperatures.

To do this, we inverted the slope of the existing roof in order to improve the internal spatial relationship, give a view to the offices located in the mezzanine and avoid exposing the roof surface to the afternoon sun. For this same reason, in front of the main glazed façade, a metal structure was arranged with blinds and pergolas to protect the working areas from strong sunlight. To reduce heat emission and create a pleasant view, hollow concrete blocks planted with Japanese grass were placed on top of the existing exterior pavement.
